For most in my generation, the actor Christopher Lloyd is best known as the eccentric recluse scientist in the “Back to the Future” movies who sends Michael J. Fox’s Marty McFly to the past, the future, the past again, and then finally the present. Today, that present is past, while the previous future is now the present.

Anyway, Doc Brown ate a meal at the Sawmill Saloon in the Iron Range city of Virginia, Minnesota, a couple nights ago. In a celebrity starved culture like ours, this is big enough news to merit a mention here on the Iron Range’s fastest-growing news and culture website.

Below, you see the Sawmill Saloon social media post that set off the tizzy of idle Iron Range gossip, including the ever-growing rumor that Julia Roberts has a cabin on a local lake, an unprovable tidbit that I’ve heard in at least five different iterations, including one version that put her on the lake across from the Bray Lake transfer station where I bring my garbage.

Anyway, I’m not sure how it relates but I saw it in the comments, which is where one finds things like that.

According to reports, Lloyd is on the Iron Range to film the movie “I Am Not a Serial Killer” based on the popular first book in a trilogy by author Dan Wells. The movie’s producers had recently put out a casting call for local actors for some roles in the film. In fact, they still need extras for filming tomorrow, March 1.

It bears mentioning that just 10 miles west of Lloyd’s picture here lies Great Scott Township. Perhaps he’ll blast over there at about 88 miles per hour during his time on the Iron Range.

He should stop by Nana Chelle’s Cafe in Bovey for a good home cooked meal!
